Not all hostels are made equal. Although I knew this from experience, Barcelona’s Casa Gracia took this to a new level.
Huge, but warm, modern artsy but decadent, free kitchen to use but a gorgeous restaurant too. Although this may seem opposing qualities, Casa Gracia seemed to scream: you really can have it all. Being a 25 year old woman, with the heart of a 19 year old backpacker and a 60 year old retiree – I felt right at home.
My favourite thing – La Paisana, the resturant which presents a modern spin on Catalan and fusion cuisine. I had memorable dishes such as ‘seared tuna with sweet potato, green apple and ginger vinaigrette’ and ‘calamari: Andalusia-style squid’.
Casa Gracia is huge, I only discovered gems such as the terrace area the day before I left. The luxury hostel has living spaces, working spaces, a kitchen, a cocktail bar and a restaurant. It also hosts a lively events calendar, many activities of which are free for hostel stayers including yoga and language exchanges. Casa Gracia is situated on Passeig de Gràcia.
